Pink Floyd - The Final Cut (1983) TOCP-71144 Japan Edition 2011 - FLAC

 The Final Cut

The Gunner’s Dream

Galtieri, o outro personagem principal da guerra, um ditador bêbado e facista, é citado nominalmente, junto a outros líderes beligerantes, na música "Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert":
"Begin (nota: primeiro ministro israelense) tomou Beirute.
Brejnev (nota: presidente russo) tomou o Afeganistão.
Galtieri tomou a bandeira do Reino Unido.

The Final Cut

ELP - Live at Nassau Coliseum (1978) 2011

PFM - Photos Of Ghosts (1973) 2011 - JVC Victor Japan

River Of Life

Steve Hackett - Manchester United (2011) PRRP 068

Soundboard

PRRP 068 Notes.

Back To The Future

Throughout the course of its long history, rock music has continually developed new styles and genres, but very few of those have fuelled the public's imagination and brought forth such fan admiration and devotion as the progressive rock movement of the late sixties and early seventies. Sophisticated albums such as The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' and 'In Search Of The Lost Chord' by The Moody Blues, both released in 1967, proved beyond any doubt that rock music was indeed an art form in its own right. A new generation of talented young musicians would soon follow this lead and propel popular music to new heights.

By 1970, with the arrival on the scene of such influential bands as King Crimson, Van der Graaf Generator, Yes, ELP and Gentle Giant, progressive rock was becoming firmly established and older acts like Pink Floyd and Procol Harum were joining the movement and producing some of their greatest work. Up until 1977, some of the most daring and brilliant music ever recorded came from the progressive rock community. This was at a time before rock music began to turn into the money-hungry industry it sadly became.

Few progressive rock bands shone as brightly as Genesis. From being early pioneers of the movement, and despite the loss of two key members, Genesis managed to survive the punk sweep of the late seventies and went on to attain superstardom in the eighties and nineties. To this day, they remain one of the most revered icons in the prog world, their recorded output from 1970 to 1977 rightfully considered one of the very best from the era.

The first key member to leave was, of course, singer Peter Gabriel. It is quite impossible to underrate the importance that the charismatic frontman had in the band's rise to stardom. His enigmatic storytelling and bizarre theatrics captivated fans and critics alike, attracting more and more people to Genesis concerts with each passing year of his tenure with the band. Gabriel's decision to leave the group in 1975 could have signified the end for Genesis, but fate, and the depth of talent within the band, decreed otherwise. With drummer Phil Collins installed as lead singer and frontman, Genesis released 'A Trick Of The Tail' and 'Wind And Wuthering', two of the best albums of their entire catalogue. Unfortunately, though, another very important defection lurked ahead.

After the 'Wind And Wuthering' tour, while the band was mixing the live album 'Seconds Out', Steve Hackett, the band's lead guitarist since 1971, announced his intention to leave Genesis. His departure, although not remotely as publicised as Gabriel's, would turn out to be an even greater turning point for Genesis. Steve's unique, ghostly sounds and delicate electric and acoustic touches, an unmistakable ingredient of the band's individual sound, would be sorely missed and the music of Genesis would never be the same again.

Since leaving the group that made him famous, Steve Hackett has been highly prolific. Following the unexpected success of his first solo album, 'Voyage Of The Acolyte', released in 1975 while he was still a member of Genesis, Steve embarked on a very successful and fruitful solo career which has given us no less than 22 studio albums over the course of the last 35 years, not counting two side projects with Yes members: the 1986 GTR album with guitarist Steve Howe and the recent Squackett project with bassist Chris Squire. Steve's next studio effort, scheduled for release in the fall of 2012, will be a sequel to his very popular 1996 'Genesis Revisited' album. 'Genesis Revisited - Volume Two', a 2CD affair, will be, in Steve's own words "...the longest album I have ever produced".

For all his studio work, however, Steve has not shied away from the live stage during all these years. Between 1978 and 1983, he toured heavily to promote each of his first six solo albums. After recording two more, 'Bay Of Kings' (his first acoustic album) and 'Till We Have Faces', he concentrated on the GTR group project and, capitalising on the success of the hit single 'When The Heart Rules The Mind', a long tour was set up to promote the album in North America and Europe. After the tour, Steve retired from the GTR project, electing to stay away from bands and heavy touring for a while. In fact, apart from a brief acoustic tour in 1988, he was absent from the live scene until 1992, at which time he assembled a new band to promote his album, 'Guitar Noir'. Following an acclaimed four-night stay in Japan to promote the 'Genesis Revisited' album in 1996, Steve once again disappeared from the live scene.

It was the release of the excellent 'Darktown' album in 1999 which marked Hackett's definitive return to the stage. Putting together an entirely new band, he began playing live again, and he has not stopped recording and touring since, much to our delight. The concert we now offer with this spectacular stereo remaster was recorded from the audience in Manchester, England, on November 12th, 2011. The set list offers a wide variety of material from Steve's back catalogue, including songs from his latest studio offering, 'Beyond The Shrouded Horizon', and the welcome inclusion of six complete Genesis tracks. We truly hope you will enjoy listening to this special performance from a progressive legend!

Starcastle - Fountains of Light (1977) Japan Edition 2011

Fountains

Fripp & Eno ‎– May 28, 1975 Olympia Paris, France (2011)

DGM Live review:

These show notes are written by long-standing Frippertronics expert and unofficial archivist, Allan Okada, whose help in the restoration of this concert has been invaluable.

nav_catalogThis historic recording documents an extremely rare and classic performance of a mysterious collaborative tour from two of the most creative and fascinating figures in rock. It is one of the most rewarding live recordings this writer has ever heard. For any fan of ‘No Pussyfooting’ or ‘Evening Star’, this live recording is of epic significance and thanks to the efforts of Alex Mundy, is now also comparable in audio quality, by synchronizing the most complete and best (by a mile) available live bootleg recording with Eno's stage tapes recently discovered. This tour also represents a turning point for both artists, about to enter new frontiers professionally and personally: Eno as an ambient music pioneer and Fripp’s re-emergence as a “small, mobile, intelligent unit”.

NewsHere is the lead up to this 5th of a 7-show European mini-tour. Fripp just recently disbanded King Crimsonat a point which many would describe as their artistic pinnacle. Eno also recently parted ways with Roxy Music at a similar juncture and then aborted his first and only extensive solo tour after only a handful of shows, due to a collapsed lung. Fripp & Eno live in concert? What would they do? All the shows in Spain and France were, not surprisingly, accompanied with unrealistic fan expectations, hoping for a presentation of ‘21st Century Schizoid Man’ combined with ‘Baby’s on Fire’ perhaps? What this audience got was something entirely different. The programme was largely improvised and totally instrumental. Adding to the event's unorthodoxy was the absence of all conventional stage lighting. The sole illumination was provided by Malcolm LeGrice's colour saturated and looped short film ‘Berlin Horse’ projected behind the two shadowy figures on stage, visually mimicking the music. The result was an unprecedented live performance format, years ahead of its time. It was also mind-boggling to most of the unsuspecting 1975 audience, yielding wildly different reactions. Reportedly about half the shows on this tour were also plagued with some sort of major technical hazard, stemming from the venue, the PA or the duo's stage equipment. In Saint-Étienne, the audience went as far as booing the duo off the stage! Fortunately for us here, this Paris Olympia performance was technically flawless and from a musical standpoint, incredibly inspired.

DiariesStarting with the pre-recorded primordial drone ‘Water on Water’, the duo eventually walks on stage. Fripp begins playing through the “Enotronic system” (since Eno, not Fripp operated the tape machines on this tour). It's important to note that at this time, the mechanics of the Revox tape delay system was a mystery to the guitarist. This must have surely added a heavy dose of Eno’s "idiot glee" to the entire proceedings. Fripp moves this piece into uncharted territories with short volume pedal sweeps of lunacy before detaching from the delay system and beautifully soloing over the familiar backing loop of ‘Swastika Girls’. Very astute listeners will detect the unrealized main theme from King Crimson’s ‘Blue’ off the top. An intermission has the audience treated to Eno’s seminal ‘Discreet Music’ before the duo return to the stage with another improvised loop morphing into the now familiar ‘Wind On Water’ landscape. The sublimely serene ‘A Near Find in Rip Pop’ follows with Fripp soloing over a beautiful, strummed guitar piece (from the ‘Evening Star’ sessions) enhanced with synthetic animal screeches utilized months later on Eno’s ‘Zawinul/Lava’ track. Then just as you feel relaxed, Eno’s loop changes to something akin to a gigantic, looming dark cloud as Fripp hits the distortion pedal and fires off some solos of truly monstrous intensity. Eno gently takes the proceedings back down to Earth again by introducing the now infamous ‘Evening Star’ backing loop over which Fripp treats us to yet another wonderful solo before leaving the stage again, while ‘An Iron Frappe’ continues to envelop the crowd. The duo reappears for the final ‘Softy Gun Poison’ complete with tapes of sinister laughter and mysterious chatter (foreshadowing moments of Fripp’s upcoming ‘Exposure’), before leaving the stage for the last time, while (the then unknown) ‘An Index of Metals’ terrorizes the bewildered audience as they exit the venue. All in all, this lucky Paris audience was treated with the entirety of both classic albums as well as enough new material to constitute a third. As a bonus, we are also presented with Eno’s stage tapes in pure format including Test Loops from the sound check. What more could you ask from a live recording? Absolutely essential listening.

Pink Floyd - Immersion At Wembley - 1974 (2011)

Com "Roger Waters", o álbum "The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking", e com "David Gilmour", os álbuns "About Face" de 1984, e "On an Island" de 2006.

Andy Jackson, Pink Floyd engenheiro Mais recentemente, ele foi responsável pela mixagem e masterização de áudio de grande parte do material bônus em "The Dark Side of the Moon" e em "Wish You Were Here".

You have spoken about the ‘missing’ kick drum on the live Wembley recording of The Dark Side of the Moon. Apart from fixing that, what was the biggest challenge in terms of getting this audio recording into shape for inclusion on the Immersion box?

Andy Jackson: Spill was a major problem. There was a lot of everything on the vocals, but this is only to be expected with a gig recording. What was not expected was the amount of guitar on the drums, and most problematically, the bass and keyboard stacks were right next to each other and the spill between them was dreadful. On the final mix you can hear it on the bass, the imaging is rather vague. It should be in the middle, but gets pulled over to the right where I’d placed Rick’s keyboards. It actually wanders around a bit, the louder I had the keyboards, the more it drifts right.

SDE: Drums apart, were any bits of new performance ‘flown in’ to this live recording at any point to correct a mistake, for instance?

AJ: We used two different nights recording for the album. Essentially it splits as ‘side one’ and ‘side two’, we switch nights at Money. I did occasionally use bits & pieces from the other night for fixes, vocals mostly. If you accept that in order to make a compelling record, it needs to be free from things that will break the spell too much, and a sour note would do. With current technology we can re-pitch things, but the spill problem meant that if we did, you’d hear the re-pitched spill on the vocal, and that spill would be out of tune. Consequently, it was better to use the other night as an insert. The only addition was on the intro of Time where we added in the heartbeat. They hadn’t played it on the night, and it is so much part of the fundamental rhythm I thought it was a liberty that was justified. I mixed it quite a bit quieter than the balance on the original album, enough to do the job but not drawing attention to itself.

SDE: The concert in the box is actually from two nights – could you be more specific in terms of which songs were from which nights?

AJ: Side one was from the 16th [November 1974], side two the 15th.

SDE: The “early mix” on disc 6 of The Dark Side of the MoonImmersion box is a fascinating listen. Is this mix presented exactly as it was when the band took it home over Christmas 1972? i.e. have any tweaks or enhancements been applied?

AJ: Only a pass for mastering. Played the original 1/4″ tapes into my workstation via my mastering equaliser, giving it a tweak on the way. This is normal procedure for any record. Otherwise it’s exactly the same.

SDE: In your opinion is the hi-res Blu-ray stereo / 5.1 2011 remaster of The Dark Side of the Moon now the definitive audiophile version of the album? Is there any reason to hold on to the 2003 SACD?

AJ: Hi-def PCM & DSD sound different, you pays your money you takes your choice on that, I like DSD, very analogue sounding. I believe that the BD is not new mastering, it is derived from the same source as the SACD [this is the case].

SDE: What has been your favourite or most satisfying aspect of working on the audio for the Immersion Box release of The Dark Side of the Moon

AJ: Oddly I’m going to say it was the early versions of Sheep and Dogs that are on Wish You Were Here [Immersion and Experience editions], not The Dark Side of the Moon. I loved seeing the writing process of those revealed. The best single moment was finding the tape that gives us the Easter Egg of Roger the Hat [Pink Floyd roadie whose spoken voice is heard on On The Run]. I’d hoped that the tapes of the interviews would turn up, but it seems to be gone. Fortunately Nick had taken a copy of Roger the Hat’s one at the time, as it is so funny.

Pink Floyd - Animals in Paris (1977) 2011

Welcome To The Machine
